Dress The Pear Body Type

The pear-shaped woman, also called triangle body, has more weight in the lower part with the hips and the backside wider than the shoulders. It is usually described as the most ‘curvaceous’ body. It’s a simple one to notice just by looking at your legs as they are sometimes noticeably more wider, muscular, and fuller compared to the rest of your body.

It is actually the most common body shape and many celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys and J. Lo, are categorized as pear-shaped women.

Alternate names for the pear-shaped body are ‘A’ shape, triangle shape, spoon and bell.

To accentuate the pear-shaped body, attract the eyes to your upper body while camouflaging your lower body parts and at the same time show off your flattering curves. To do this, wear clothing that widens your shoulders, clothing that enhances fuller top and chest while your lower body parts are narrowed and slimmed down.

Wear dark colors at lower body part: Wearing dark colors pants or skirts disguises the unfavorable areas. Go for dark colors such as grey, blue, black and dark denim.

Wear light colors at upper body part: Go for bright colors, bold prints and embellishments to draw the attention on the upper part of the body. Tops or dresses with printed motifs, patterns like ruffle or horizontal stripes, flounce or pockets or embellishment like beading, embroidery or lace, also grab attention and enrich the upper body

Layered tops: Layered tops can add volume to the upper body, which then helps balance the proportion. Add vests, cardigans, jackets or a scarf. This is because the horizontal line is narrower at above your hip and just above your knees.

Jewelry: Embellish the neckline with precious necklaces and go for big statement earrings and you will naturally bring the eye upward towards the slimmer part of your body. Colorful and bold scarves are also great for this purpose.


Pants: Make sure to choose only wide-hemmed pants. No skinny jeans! Structured pants in a resistant fabric are also great in making you look slimmer by shaping and restraining your figure. They should be high-waist in order to wrap the hips and not cut through them.

Tops or evening dresses with full sleeves, wide necklines and chest enhancing necklines: Tops or evening dresses with puffed, ruched, cape and butterfly sleeves, bateau neck, and scoop necklines adds volume and broaden your shoulders. While sweetheart, strapless, V-neck and off-the-shoulders tops or dresses give weight to the chest and at the same time show off your shoulders. Belted clothes and thin belts: Wear belted long tops, cardigans and tunic at your narrowest waist for a flattering figure. Wear thin belts as wide belts emphasize and add weight to your lower body.

Wear heels: Most pear-shaped women have thick and fleshy legs. Wearing high heels will elongate the legs. Avoid ankle straps heels. Avoid pencil skirts: They hug your hips and thus should be avoided.

Avoid hot pants: Hot pants are shortened shorts. These very short sexy pants accentuate your butts and hips. You want to avoid this at all cost if you’re pear shaped.

Avoid pleats and gathers at waist: Pleats and gathers help to add volume to your waist which in directly makes your bottom half wider.

Avoid tops, jackets, cardigan and dresses that end at your hips or thighs: Avoid tops, vests and jackets which stop on the hips as they will simply cut your figure and draw the attention on the largest part of your body. Avoid also oversize tops that hide your small waist.

Avoid pockets and horizontal patterns near the hips or thighs: They only draw the eyes to your lower body areas because they widen your hips and thighs. Also avoid cargo shorts because the full pockets are normally place at the hips. Avoid capri style pants too.
